Let’s talk about size first. There are a few benchmarks for court size to consider.  First, keep in mind the free-throw lane is 12’ wide and the distance from the backboard to the free-throw line is 15’.  So, already just to get the free-throw lane in a backyard you will need about 12’x18’ keeping in mind the backboard should not line up on the edge of the court.  You certainly wouldn’t want the kiddos twisting an ankle off the edge of the court as they shoot a baseline shot.

If you want a three-point arc on the court (of course you do), you will need to go a minimum of 28’ deep.  This will give you some nice room at the top of the three-point arc to set up for the shot.  Remember, a three-point arc is 19’9” (high school 3 point regulation) from the center of the rim. If you want the full range of the three-point arc, you will need to go a minimum of 46’ wide on the court.  The perfect size backyard basketball court we build is 50’ wide x 30’ deep as 50’ is a regulation basketball width and the 30’ gives you over 5’ of room at the top of the key.

If you do not have enough room for the entire 3 point arc, just keep those benchmarks in mind as you downsize the court.  We build many basketball courts in the size range of 28’x28’ to 28’x36’ for smaller backyards. They give you the critical areas of the three point arc, are a ton of fun to play on and can accommodate those intense 3 on 3 games!

Basketball hoops seem to be for sale everywhere now, but I do caution you in just buying a hoop online or at the first place you stop.  Who in the world is going to service the hoop once it is in your backyard? We sell some of the best hoop systems on the market, from Sport Court™ Slam Systems to Mega Slam to Heavy Duty Wall Mounted Systems.  If we sell it, we service it!

Our Hoop Systems feature a regulation 1/2” thick tempered glass, clear view backboard giving the shooter the best bounce of the ball and response much like a high school or college gymnasium.  Keep in mind that these backboards are glass so we strongly encourage that only basketballs be used on the court.  We have replaced a few boards in our day from kids throwing golf balls or other hard objects, which results in hundreds of little shattered glass pieces all over the court.  Let’s stay away from that costly and undesirable scenario.

Surprisingly, adjustable height hoops are often times more stable than non-adjustable hoops.

Good, Quality Hoops will range in price. Do not go cheap here!  A court is a big investment for your family and you will regret it in a very short amount of time if you do.  The old adage “you get what you pay for” definitely applies here.

Construction for a court is a straight forward process. We recommend concrete as a base (poured much the same as a driveway) as it gives the court the most solid, consistent surface with minimal maintenance down the road.  We have our customers work directly with a concrete contractor of their choice.  Often times our clients already have a relationship with a concrete company from past projects.  Working directly with the concrete contractor will save you money on the project.  Once you have selected your contractor, one of our court experts will discuss a few key things such as anchor placements and final finish.

We have three options for outdoor modular court tiles for you to choose from.  Our recommendation for you will solely depend on the main sport that will be played on your court.   We build our courts with Sport Court™ products.

Since 1974, Sport Court™ has been the “World’s Largest Court Builder” for building custom backyard courts.  Sport Court is the original modular court tile so they have had the longest amount of time for development and innovation of their tile products.  We like that!  With the many tile and color options as well as court components from basketball hoops to court lights to ball containment netting, we can customize a court for you and your family that you will be proud of for many years to come.
