What makes up a deck? To most people a deck is made up of the deck boards and railing. While that is true, there quite a bit more to a deck then just deck boards and railing.
The unsung hero of your deck is your framing lumber. Rarely seen, and the part that does not look nearly as luxurious as low maintenance decking is your framing. Framing is the most important part of your deck. The most expensive and greatest decking out there will not perform the way it is intended to with sub-par, or old and used framing lumber. One of the many reasons why Deckmasters Supply Store continues to be a leader in the deck building community is our use of only the best treated lumber we can find. That framing is called Revere, and it's a #1 Southern Yellow Pine, Kiln Dried After Treated product.

F.A.Q.s on KDAT Treated Lumber
Q: Is Kiln Dried Treated Lumber still a pressure treated wood.
A: Yes, while the KDAT process helps to improve the stability of pressure treated wood, it doesn’t make it impervious to wood’ natural characteristics. This can be especially true if its exposed to wetting and dry cycles prior to install. At Deckmasters all lumber is stored inside our warehouse.
Q: Is KDAT lumber perfect?
A: No, but it will be as perfect as a a wood treated product can bee. Precision. Sawn Lumber will vary in dimensional size due to mill inconsistencies, and therefore will vary in size. Additional drying, or moisture addition can also cause treated to shrink and swell.
Q: What is the exact moisture content?
A: KDAT lumber has a targeted moisture range of (15%-19%) KDAT is not exact, so the lumber will have variation in moisture content from board to board.
Q: Will KDAT eliminate warp, twist, and cupping?
A: While KDAT improves the performance of treated lumber it cannot completely eliminate things like warping, cupping, twisting, checking, cracking, and splitting. These are to be expected while the framing is in it's loose form. Once assembled into a solid frame, it's less likely to shrink and swell, bow and twist than a surface treated, wet treated lumber.
For the additional cost, ease of use, and better end results, Revere KDAT treated lumber is worth every penny. You can thank us later when you're enjoying your recently finished deck!
